Women’s self defense

Learn from Nancy Long, a 4th degree Kukkiwon (world) black belt in Tae Kwon Do, for a monthly offering of women’s self-defense. Nancy has 14 years of experience in practicing Tae Kwon Do and is eager to help the community stay safe. Nancy learned these self-defense techniques from Navy Seal impact fighting, and Arnis style knife fighting.

Learn some not some common, common sense, about avoiding predators, learn how to “foil” the attacker’s plan, get away safely, how to physically defend yourself from an attack, and what the appropriate means of action are given the situation.

Nancy has been an elementary school teacher for the last 23 years, with a masters plus 40 in education. Her abilities to teach have been homed in over the years and now she’s coming to the community to bring you the education you need for self-defense. In addition to her experience in Tae Kwon Do, and teaching she is also a certified as an ACE personal trainer and brings fitness knowledge to the community. One of her favorite classes to instruct is kick-boxing.

This class is offered on the third Saturday of each month from 1 to 2pm. $18

Mini & Me Family Tree Yoga: All Levels!

Here’s a new class as requested by you! Feel free to join your child/ren in a fun, all levels yoga activity, which will be intuitively improv’d for the age ranges of children (12 & under. Adults aren’t the only ones who could benefit from self & body awareness, Imagine modeling the types of behaviors we want to hone as adults in a fun, practical way. We learn to be mindful of change, stress, or navigating through life in general. From home/school or just in their own little worlds…everyone deserves a time and place to, “just be”. Plus, it’s a fresh way to keep active! This class is for everyone. Especially for those who, “Don’t do yoga”. 😉

Join us for a short and sweet hour+ session open to families who want to learn a variety of fun, creative activities to practice healthy self care methods that will extend far into adulthood. Reiki I , II and III Training:
“Reiki is the greatest secret in the science of energetic.” – Madam Hawayo Takata Interested in becoming a Level I Reiki Practitioner?
Reiki, whose origins began thousands of years ago, is a practice that harnesses the Universal Life Force, or Prana, in a hands-on method of healing. This first of three sessions will give students the knowledge and ability to heal themselves and others. On completion of this first session, you will become a Level I Reiki Practitioner. The following two sessions, Reiki II and III, will increase one’s ability to channel the energy, as well as learn techniques to enhance your Reiki practice. Amy Whelan has been a third degree Reiki practitioner, aka Reiki Master, since 2000. She recently became a registered yoga teacher. Her day job is as a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing in Elgin, IL. She has been teaching for 25 years and is fluent in sign language.

ALICE Training – Active Killer Training
The Temple Yoga Teachers are learning what to do in the case that an active killer comes into the studio and you’re welcome to join. Last November there was a shooting at a yoga studio in Florida. If you would like some training from the NIU police on what procedures should be taken if an active killer comes into a building come join us. This practical training is helpful to everyone. Free.

Community Meditation 
Please join us in person, or in spirit, for this community meditation starting at 5:30 p.m. CST. If you are planning on joining in person, please arrive early enough to get settled before we start the meditation.
Any amount of Love Donation is welcome, if it so moves you, this is not mandatory. We will collect over a 6 month period and then donate the collections to a local charity. Any monies collected over this 6 month period January – June will be donated to Safe Passage, Inc.

Off the Mat Yoga Series: The Niyamas
Before we talk about the Yamas, let’s talk about what the 8 limbs of yoga are. The 8 limbs of yoga offer a way for a yoga practitioner to practice yoga. This first limb of the 8 limbs are the Yamas, the yamas are broken to 5 subsets, non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, non-excess and non-possessiveness.

Special Kundalini Yoga Class Celebrating Spring Equinox

Align your Spine with Dowls and Props
Join Amy as she helps you explore alignment using dowels, straps, and blocks. Each posture will help you to create space and alignment in your spine and joints. This two-hour workshop will provide you with the tools needed to experience each posture fully and with support.
